The only reason I give this 4 stars is the print quality. No issues with the tab or the staff music, the issue is with the diagrams. Over-inked, so you don't see the graphics intention on 75% of them - however, this doesn't keep me from scoring 4 stars at least. I have an Intermediate musical background, and own several other Grimoire's; the understanding of the exercises is clear. I would assume even a slightly better than beginner would quickly understand the exercises given the tab and suggested fingering is there. I would not necessarily recommend to a beginner unless you are really committed to expanding your guitar skills, as it does assume and clearly states at the beginning that if any of it doesn't make sense, you need to consider the "scales and modes" to help you gain that knowledge.Commit to the exercises, and over time (probably quicker than on your own) you will improve speed, accuracy, and articulation.an opinion:I have seen other reviews complaining about the tabs; no issues with my received copy. However, again if you are actually following the instruction provided regarding the patterns I would think that even if the tab is somewhat hard to read (is it a 6 an 8 or 0?) it would become clear based on the pattern explained (or even the staff music).

The exercises themselves are great. This is a solid manual, easy to follow. I bought this for my husband, a Christmas request, and just opened the envelope to wrap it. I knocked off one star because the cover has a rip. The book was advertised as new. No big deal, maybe it got ripped during shipping. We’re not too picky. Then I noticed all of the greasy fingerprints on the cover (not mine) as if multiple people had picked up the book and flipped through it. Two star deduction for grossness and making me look like I cheaped out and bought him a used Xmas gift. Again, rating is for condition. All of the Grimoire books are good. Just a little bummed that the seller shipped me finger grease.

If you play guitar and want to add depth to your solos, buy this book, and keep it on your music stand. Yes, it's that good.

About the Author

Anthony J. Strianese is a professor in the Department of Hotel, Culinary Arts, and Tourism at Schenectady County Community College (SCCC).He has been an educator since 1974 specializing in teaching Mathematics for the Culinary Profession, Food and Beverage Control, Dining Room Management, Banquet Management, Wines of the World and Hospitality Management courses. Professor Strianese is a Certified Culinary Educator with the American Culinary Federation (ACF). From 1991 to 2009, Mr. Strianese was the chairperson of the SCCC Department of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism. During his tenure, SCCC's culinary arts program received the maximum accreditation (three times) from the ACF's Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC). He is a recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Administrative Services. He has been a banquet manager, food and beverage controller, and a caterer. He represents the Saint Augustine, Florida-based ACFEFAC, conducting site visits to verify that institutions meet ACFEFAC accreditation standards. As a member of the New York State Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NYSRAEF) he is a part of a consulting team that provides advice to owners and operators on how to improve their restaurant's operation. Since 2006, Professor Strianese has been the chief judge for the NYSRAEF ProStart Management competition. He serves as the Treasurer/Secretary of the NYSRAEF Board of Directors. He is also on the Board of the Directors of the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association, and was Chairperson of the Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACCVB). Professor Strianese instituted and has been the coordinator for the Walt Disney World College program at SCCC since 1983. He served a two year term as a member of the original Disney College Program National Advisory Board.

This book is being used in my Domestic Violence class this semester, and it has brought a great amount of awareness about this topic across the world. I have been shocked to learn the horrors that many women suffer across religions, economic circumstances, and developed countries. I am also intrigued at how men suffer from domestic violence, but it seems like a taboo topic. Prostitution, child abuse, and elder abuse are covered here as well. This is a great book with very insightful information. You will not be disappointed with the purchase of this book!

I used this book in my Domestic Violence class and when I first got it I was like okay I know enough about Domestic Violence. However this book is really helpful in teaching about Domestic Violence all over the world. I liked learning new terms like Dowry. I also liked how it was easy to read and really made it clear about the challenges victims face. I liked that it looked in to more areas then just female victims or children. This book made my class very informative.
